First step: Collect
all resources into a folder created on the desktop.
1) Use the File>New Folder command
to create the folder on the desktop. Label the folder [secnumber][lastname]web.
For your professional webpage, you
will need to collect the following files:
| vt1.pdf | vt2.pdf | vt3.pdf |
| insp.jpg exported from your inspiration document | dd.pdf (your drag and drop) | Linklist or Treasure/Scavenger Hunt (linklist.html, thunt.html, or shunt.html) |
Any
graphic files that are inserted in your .html documents |
||
imovie.mov |
||
These files should be copied (using the option key) from your zip into the new folder [secnumber][lastname]web that is on your desktop. The files in this folder should only be worked on from the desktop!!!! Never from your zip!!!!
2) Check the files names of all files and folders (including graphic and html fles) to be sure you have no spaces in the names, no capital letters, and no more than 12 letters plus the extension letters in the name. For further information, see Naming your files for the web.
Second
step: Create an .html document file from scratch by opening a new document in
Netscape Composer (NOT Internet Explorer or Word).
Use the following steps to set up your .html document
that will become your linklist, Treasure Hunt, or Scavenger Hunt.
1. Open
the new document: Use Window>Composer command to open a new document.
2. Set
up the page properties.
3. Add
text and format text. (For a linklist, you will add the names of five
webpages and a brief annotation for each. For a Scavenger or Treasure
Hunt, type out the five questions students will be answering plus directions
for the type of answer you expect students to create.)
4. Add
graphics as inline graphics. (You should have an inline graphic for each annotation
or question. Be sure to place the graphic file in your desktop folder
before inserting links. You may find that you prefer the look of pasting the
graphics into one column of a table and the annotation or question into the
other side of the column. Simply use the Insert>Table>Table command from the
menubar.)
5. Activate
links to other webpages. (Select the text that will serve as the link and
then use the Insert>Link command).
6. Add
a horizontal ruler (Use Insert>Horizontal Line command) below the last question.
7. Type
in: Created by [add your name here] on [placetoday'sdate].
Then, select your name and add an email address link that will send email to
your account.
Third
step: Practice "whacking" an .html file from the Internet using Netscape Composer.
1. Access the
webpage that you would like to "whack" in Netscape Navigator (NOT Internet Explorer!!!).
2. Use File>Edit
Page command from the menubar and the page will open in Netscape Composer.
3. You are now
ready to make page property changes, alter
and add text, add graphics, activate links (both to other websites, files
in your folder, and email links).
