Portfolio Tasks

Make 4 contact hours at the assigned school and do the following:

  • Visit 2 different classes for a period of 2 hours (if possible) or visit 4 different times.
  • Complete the tally sheet for each visit.
  • Dress and act professionally
  • Be on time
  • Have all necessary materials
  • Contact the school if you can not make an arranged appointment
  • Make an appointment with the school to re-schedule
  • Participate in assignments given by the supervising teacher

Suggested activities:

  • Observe teachers
  • Work with small groups-completion of a project or tutoring
  • Read a book to the class
  • Monitor a class during guided or independent practice activities
  • Work one-on-one with a student

Collect the following information during your visits:

  • Complete the tally sheet as thoroughly as possible. You will not be able to collect all the data for all classes you visit.
  • Record notes of your visit and clearly describe the following:
    • Instructional strategies used by the teacher
    • Activities in which you participated
    • If technology was included in the instruction, do the following:
      • Identify the technology being used within the instruction
        • Analyze the instruction (describe in detail how it is used and for what purpose)
        • Critique the effectiveness of its use (was the use appropriate, were activities successful)
      • If technology was not included in the instruction, do the following
        • Identify areas within the activities observed where technology could have been integrated
        • Describe activities you would suggest that would integrate technology

Create a webpage journal entry to add to your online portfolio:
You will create one narrative entry that describes the most creative use of technology you observe during your time at the schools. You arenot limited to describing activities that you observe at St. Pius, but may us any activity that you observe. Your webpage journal will require the following:

  • Web page is constructed so that you include a background color, page properties modified with a page title, and at least 1 graphic (preferably clipart or images from the web unless you can obtain written permission to use a teacher/student’s picture on the page—a copy of the written permission must be included with your tally sheets turned in for the field experience portfolio.)
  • Web page is titled “Creative Technology Activities in Lafayette Parish”.
  • Do not use the name of the school or last names of students anywhere on the webpage.
  • Write up the activity that you observed within the framework of the lesson plan templates.
    1. You will decide which of the lesson models the teacher is using, and use that template to write up a description of the technology-enhanced activity that you want to describe.
    2. Include a description of what was used for the focus, developmental, and evaluation activities.
    3. If you did not observe all these activities, you must construct activities that would be appropriate to match the learning objectives and the technology activity you are describing.
      • Be sure to describe the lesson clearly and sequentially so others could duplicate the lesson.

Staple your completed tally/field observation forms together and turn in to the turn-in tray on the bookcase.
