Science Inquiry Activity

Using inquiry techniques, students were guided through a discussion of the growth and physiology of trees:

Step I: Check prior knowledge:
What do you already know about trees?
What do all trees need?
What have you observed about the seasons in relationship to tree growth?

Step 2: Observe:
What kind of questions do you have regarding your tree cookies?

Step 3: Generate questions for investigations of tree physiology and growth:
What are the different colors in cross-sections?
Which color ring was created in what season?

Step 4: Formulate and justify explanations
